As Netflix and Spotify ignore platform
“It’s better to be a pirate than join the navy.”

Last week's announcement of Netflix and Spotify planning to disregard the Vision Pro platform just hours before the commencement of pre-orders made significant waves in the tech world. Fortunately, developer Firecore has provided assurance that its sophisticated video player, Infuse, described as "an elegant video player," will extend support to the Vision Pro from day one, with plans to roll out a dedicated native app in the near future.

This development implies that users will have the capability to enjoy a broad spectrum of video formats, including MKV, MP4, AVI, ISO, DVD, BDMV, and others, right from the initial release day. This functionality mirrors the seamless experience already available on iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices. Notably, one of Infuse's most enticing features, the "Stream from anywhere" capability, enables users to effortlessly browse and play videos stored on various platforms such as Mac, PC, NAS, and media servers like Plex, Emby, Jellyfin. Additionally, cloud services like Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, Box, Aliyun Drive, among others, are seamlessly integrated. The central library consolidates content from multiple sources, offering Vision Pro users a plethora of options right from the outset, including the ability to access Netflix content from a personal or friends' servers.

In contrast to the approach taken by Disney's streaming products, Netflix's recent behavior, driven by a voracious appetite for data and an escalating pursuit of financial gain, has left users discontented over the past year. Many have already resorted to sailing the high seas. The absence of an enhanced experience for Vision Pro users, akin to Disney's approach, leaves Netflix subscribers contending with a web-only experience, if even that. The lack of added value for Vision Pro users raises concerns about the potential for further discontent and a potential uptick in alternative streaming methods.

Infuse offers a viable solution for users seeking to escape ad-supported monthly subscriptions, particularly with its Plex support. Users can legally purchase Blu-ray or digital files and host them on their own servers or, more likely, find the files on the high seas. Infuse functions like an offline streaming service, utilizing iCloud to keep metadata, library settings, and playback progress in sync across all devices. With features such as these, the app provides users with a comprehensive solution beyond what Netflix a large, increasingly greed-driven corporation is offering.
